From its beginning in 1976, SBCS has been a leader in chemical automation with numerous technical papers on Oxidation-Reduction Potential (ORP) technology. The company maintains an ongoing research and development program, including a laboratory for research on water chemistry. In 1978, SBCS developed cyanuric acid-compatible controllers for pools and spas. In 1986, the company introduced the first true ORP/pH controller specifically designed for swimming pools and spas. In 1990, the CHEMCOM system - the first remote monitoring system designed for swimming pools - was installed on pools operated by the Chicago Parks Department. In 1996, the company introduced the CHEMTROL® PC Programmable Controller, the first fully integrated controller combining in a single unit all the different controls for chemical automation, water balance, filter backwashing and heating. In 2003, the company introduced a revolutionary new PPM SENSOR with a selective membrane for direct readings of Free Chlorine in water without interference from cyanurates or oxidizers.
